British Prime Minister Stripping Benefits from Non-English Speakers

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that British Prime Minister David Cameron was planning to announce on Monday that benefits will be stripped from non-English speaking immigrants.

Cameron is trying to cut the country’s welfare bill, and reportedly wants to stop printing welfare information in foreign languages and remove translators from the benefits offices.

He hopes that the bill will make it harder for immigrants to take advantage of UK’s welfare system, but also that it will encourage them to learn English, an important job-skill.

The announcement has been delayed, however, due to disagreements between Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

The UK has seen more immigration than any other country in the European Union in recent years. Read the full story from the Business Insider here.
