For more than two decades now, Boston Dynamics has been pushing the limits of robotics.
The company has created all sorts of robotic creatures over the years, but it is probably best known for the Atlas: a humanoid robot that boasts some impressive capabilities.
Earlier this week, Boston Dynamics released new video showing the latest version of the Atlas in action. The bot, which stands 5′ 9″ tall and weighs in at 180 lbs, is equipped with a system of sensors that help it assess terrain, avoid obstacles, and maintain balance.
The new Atlas also has the ability to stand back up when pushed to the ground — something that none of the earlier models were capable of. Check it out in the video below:
The Atlas is a joint project between Boston Dynamics, the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), and DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency), the U.S. military’s technological development branch.
