SpaceX successfully completed their Crew Dragon Demo-1 mission earlier this month, checkmarking another significant achievement for Elon Musk, SpaceX, and NASA.
The Crew Dragon Demo-1 mission marks the first orbital test for SpaceX’s new Dragon 2 spacecraft. The same spacecraft that plans to carry NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the International Space Station later this year.
The Demo-1 launch served as the final test before Dragon 2 will attempt to transport NASA’s most precious cargo – human astronauts. Since Demo-1 was a success, we are now one step closer to the next launch, appropriately titled Demo-2. A successful Demo-2 mission, would mark the first time a private company has ever brought humans to the ISS, and it’ll also be NASA’s first time to launch astronauts from US soil since we retired the Space Shuttle in 2011.
