Despite their fearsome reputation, rattlesnakes are actually pretty social creatures.

Females, especially ones that come from the same litter, are known to form communal breeding colonies where they care for and protect each other’s young.

So when YouTube user Michael Delaney went snooping into a rattlesnake den with a GoPro camera mounted on a hockey stick, he didn’t receive the warmest of welcomes from the den’s scaly inhabitants, who likely perceived the camera as a threat to their young.
